The world of sales and marketing has changed beyond all recognition in the past few years.
Once upon a time companies looked for 'hunters' to sell their products and services - people who could find the right person and sell to them quickly. That was the theory at least. It actually turns out that the best salespeople are more like farmers - 'culitvating' prospects, staying in contact with them and providing them with what they need, when they need it (even if this is 12 months down the track). Marketing has undergone a similar revolution. Sending one way marketing messages - advertising, direct mail - does not work anything like as well as it used to.
At NewsBusiness our experience has shown us that building a reputation (which doesn't happen overnight) is far and away the best way to build a business. To do this - as a business owner - you need to be doing a few things right. First off you need to have a pretty good product or service. It doesn't need to be the best - just pretty good.
Once this is in place, we recommend the following approach as an ongoing strategy to build your reputation:
Firstly, get a great website... It doesn't have to look amazing, it just has to be incredibly informative for your target market, and updated frequently.
Secondly, start a monthly email newsletter...
With hints and tips, news from your business, topical stories you can comment on and give advice.
Thirdly, contact the media...
Once you have been running the newsletter for a few months, see which stories people seem to be interested in, and fire these off as news releases to your industry publications and perhaps even general media (if you think they're interesting enough).
When you start this process you will find that lots of good things start to happen - your contacts start referring people to your website and newsletter. People pick up on media coverage you get and come to your website. Even your existing customers start to think more highly of you as you communicate with them more frequenlty (and of course tell them of any media coverage you've had).
At NewsBusiness we realise it's not always easy to get this sort of strategy up and running, and we also know how hard it can be to keep it running. That's why we offer a range of services to help your business do all of these important things, and on a consistent basis. Check out our range of services below:
"This (service) takes a lot of work off our hands and frees us up to do the work we do for our clients. We have very positive feedback from our clients about our regular newsletter and it also reinforces that we are the knowledgeable experts in our field."
